Muir woods is a national park where you can find GIANT trees. The costal redwoods (sequoia) are only found in certain locations. The only place in the world where they are currently growing is costal California and Oregon. It takes hundreds to thousands of years for the trees to grow as tall as they grow.
Muir woods is located near San Fransico. Because of how close it is to this big city, it is an extreemly popular place to go. In order to minimize the number of people there, there is a 15$ ticket that you must purchase to be there. More than 100,000 people visit the park each year!
The tallest tree at Muir Woods is over 250 feet tall! There are hundreds of trees that are over a hundred feet tall. It is a very exotic place to be, and a wonderful thing to experience. Further north, there are trees in excess of 379 feet tall!
The average age of the trees at Muir Woods is between 600-800 years old. The oldest tree here is estimated to be over 1,200 years old! This is still young for redwoods, as there are many trees at different locations that are over 2,000 years old. Because of how long it takes to grow these trees, it is important that they stay very protected.
