I am a man with many hobbies, but the one that I will be talking about is playing piano. When I was a young kid, I saw someone at church who was very good at playing piano. He captured my attention with the skillfull riffs and intricate melodies that he produced. I went up to him while he was playing to observe his talent. I watched his fingers glide across the keyboard with such fluency. When he finished playing piano, I realized something even more marvilous. I realized that the man playing piano was blind. I was dumbfounded. How can someone who can't see play piano so well? I knew at that very moment that I too wanted to be able to play piano.
Learning piano was very interesting for me. Instead of taking a traditional aproach, I did something a bit more unconventional. Almost everything that I learned on piano, I taught myself. I learned songs through the use of YouTube tutorials. This was not the best idea, because now I'm not good at reading sheet music. Something that I am good at though is creating my own songs. Most of the time when I decide to sit down to play the piano, I create my own music. Every time I play the piano, I inent something new and creat a melody that no one has ever heard before. I enjoy creating my own music than playing music that is alrerady created. There is a certain element of beauty that comes with creation.
Thinking back, there are many things that I wish I would have done when learning to play the piano. The number one thing that I wish I would have forced myself to do is learn how to sightread sheet music. The reason for this is because almost every person who accels at playing piano knows how to read sheet music very well. I feel like even though I know how to play piano very well without it, I would greatly benefit if I took the time to practice sheet music. Another thing that I wish I would have done is expose myself more to other people. Not many people know that I can play piano, and I feel like I would push myself to improve much more if people knew. This is because it would create an expectation that would drive me towards greater improvement. Another reason why I wish I played for more people is to help deal with nerves. I strongly believe that I would be much less nervous and much more confidet if I performed for spectators.
Yep, that's it. You don't need anything else in order to learn piano. I know for a fact that you don't need much to learn piano, because that's how I learned piano. I just sat down at the keys, and played the notes that sounded good together. I think that this is a beautiful way of playing, because it truly inspires your creativity.
Even though you don't technically need anything else than a piano to learn how to play piano, there's still a few things that are nice to have to accelerate your learning.
This is what a grand piano looks like. These pianos are extreemly expensive.
Upright pianos are made for people who don't have the space or money for a grand piano, but still want an acustic and non-electric piano.
This is a Yamaha YDP-144 electric piano. This is the piano that I have at home and play all the time. It is a great piano.
